PHILOSOPHY

Frankford Friends School, under the care of the Frankford Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, has been in its present, historic, urban location since 1833. During all these years the school has continued to subscribe to the same fundamental goals set down by those first thoughtful educators: a form of education which would develop an attitude of courageous independence, a readiness for responsibility, and a spiritual basis for life.

The Friend’s belief in simplicity and peaceful approaches to solving interpersonal problems is reflected in the classroom and on the playground. We seek to nurture within each child a respect for others, encouraging cooperation rather than competition.

A fundamental belief of Quakers is that “There is that of God in every person.” Each week the school community gathers together in the historic meeting house and immediately settles into silent worship. During this period the children sit in quiet meditation or share their thoughts with the group. The end of Meeting is signaled with a traditional handshake.

When our students graduate we expect them to be academically competent, caring about their world and their relationships, and courageous enough to try to make their world a better place.

Meeting Time: Monday mornings at 10:50 am
