ABOUT FFS

Frankford Friends School (FFS) has been providing a quality, affordable, Quaker-based education in its present, historic, urban location since 1833. During all these years, the school has continued to subscribe to the same fundamental goals set down by the first thoughtful educators who founded the school: a form of education which would develop an attitude of courageous independence, a readiness for responsibility, and a spiritual basis for life.

FFS emphasizes the development of the whole child in an atmosphere which allows each student to develop a sense of self-worth, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment of service to the community. Our students gain solid mastery of basic skills, logical and clear thinking, and the ability to communicate ideas.

Small classes provide a warm, personalized setting in which each teacher knows the children well and encourages their best efforts, while challenging them to broaden their horizons. The Friends’ belief in simplicity, cooperation, and peaceful problem-solving is reflected in the classroom and on the playground. We seek to nurture within each child a respect for others.

FFS graduates attend selective high schools. Principals say they arrive with excellent basic and research skills, with their joy for learning intact — and that they take on leadership roles.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Music & Movement — PreK through 3rd
  • String music, Choir, and Orchestra — 4th grade and up
  • Visual Arts and artist residencies
  • Spanish
  • Physical Education
  • Community Service
